Emergency Lighting Testing

As part of UK regulations it is essential that work places carry out routine emergency lighting testing to ensure the safety of their staff in an emergency. Our electricians are highly trained in identifying issues that need to be resolved in emergency light fittings, so you can be sure once our team have carried out their checks you need not worry about violating any regulations.

We have carried out checks in a variety of settings from care homes to offices, and each time we visit a client we work with them to ensure we carry our work out at a time convenient for them so as not to disrupt their daily running. There are several regulations and legislation in place within the UK that mean emergency lighting testing is a legal requirement, some of these include:

  • Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order 2005
  • The Building Regulations 1991
  • The Cinematography Act 1952
  • Cinematograph (Safety) Regulations Statutory Instrument 1955 no.1129
  • Health and Safety (Safety Signs and Signals) Regulations 1996: Statutory Instrument No. 341

As well as carrying out repairs and maintenance when needed we can also offer advice for the responsible person within the building on what requirements they should be covering regarding the emergency lighting in a building. Some examples of areas that would need to be covered for emergency lighting testing include:

  • Each exit door
  • Escape routes
  • Intersection of corridors
  • Outside each final exit and on external escape routes
  • Emergency escape signs
  • Stairways so that each flight receives adequate light
  • Changes in floor level
  • Windowless rooms and toilet accommodation exceeding 8msq
  • Fire-fighting equipment
  • Fire alarm call points
  • Equipment that would need to be shut down in an emergency
  • Lifts
  • Areas in premises greater than 60msq
